A few weeks ago, the controversial sports journalist, Carlos Antonio Vélez rekindled the flames in some poisonous opinions. The native of Manizales, who has a hold on the panelists of the different programs, has also shown his displeasure with the former players who become commentators on television channels overnight, branding them as functionally illiterate.
But that was not the only thing that raised the fire by Carlos Antonio Vélez pointing to a current footballer such as Rafael Santos Borré. It turns out and happens that the host of the RCN Radio program, Palabras Mayores mentioned a few weeks ago that in the life of the players he was better than neither fathers, nor mothers, nor brothers, nor wives, that is to say, that no family member get into personal issues, “I really, is that in football where the father or the woman put their hand, everything rots”.
And that was not all, because before saying those words, Carlos Antonio Vélez pointed to the wives of Franco Armani and Rafael Santos Borré as promoters of obtaining representatives for players from the national teams and that, for these reasons, they owed a important money to previous agents. Ana Caicedo and Santos Borré did not remain silent and moved the levers to sue the journalist.
Rafael Santos Borré and Ana Caicedo considered that he was incurring in “dissemination of inaccurate information due to statements made without any foundation.” Carlos Antonio Vélez had to rectify what was said by the ruling in favor of the Superior Court of Bogotá. The man from Manizales did not like it very much, but it was necessary given the lawsuit filed and the reason that the player and the journalist had.
However, Carlos Antonio Vélez did not remain silent and returned to the scene with poisonous testimonies, first, against the Colombian National Team, and second, towards Rafael Santos Borré and Ana Caicedo, reiterating his opinion that family members should not get into the topics directly related to football.
On Wednesday, October 19, Carlos Antonio Vélez spoke on his program Palabras Mayores with darts to the Colombian National Team and left a clear message for Rafael Santos Borré and Ana Caicedo. “We are out of the World Cup due to the irresponsibility of some guys for whom we still have to put out a red carpet and for whom we still have to praise them because from time to time they score a little goal or from time to time they play,” he began.
He supplemented with two strong accusations to defend again his idea said in the program that gave rise to the lawsuit. He said that the only thing he is saying is pure truth, it hurts whoever it hurts, referring to those who supervised, “seven games without a goal, those who today put you under guardianship because you tell them the truth, because I can prove it. However, Carlos Antonio Vélez did not stop there. He released a comment to support what was said in past programs about the relationship of fathers and wives on issues related to soccer, “You can’t mix things up. I have been saying that the worst problem that a soccer player can have is that his family puts their nose, their hands. What can they say, of course. But, that they go to the public instance to get their hands on things… when they get their hands on the professional issue, it’s over.” Surely, the hand in hand between these actors will continue with the harsh words of the journalist.
