“I go out to look for coffee and I see Bench with a little cap. I greet him and introduce myself. He tells me, ‘Yeah, Hall of Famer.’ He told me to sit next to me. There were two rocking chairs,” Beltrán recalled. “He told me to look into the distance. There is a lake and you can see mountains. He tells me that whenever you come to Cooperstown, take a moment to sit and assimilate who you are, what you mean to the game and to your people. I said, wow.”
