More than a hundred were injured in the same incident, according to TASS and Russian media outlet Baza. However, many media report that the death toll is much higher.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova today called on the international community to condemn the shooting incident at the concert venue near Moscow, calling it a “monstrous crime”.
An eyewitness told the Mash Telegram channel that there were “at least five bearded gunmen”.
“They acted like trained fighters. The moment they entered the building, the guards and people standing at the door were killed. Then they blocked the main entrance. The terrorists were armed with AKM rifles. At least two of the attackers were carrying backpacks, possibly containing Molotov cocktails.”
70 ambulances are at the scene, according to the Russian media, while the evacuation of the building is still underway. As Reuters reports citing Russian agencies, Russian rescue services have removed about 100 people from the basement of Crocus City Hall, while there are still people trapped on the roof of the building. In fact, part of the roof from the fire began to fall, causing horror.
“The attackers probably opened fire at the entrance of the building during a concert, using automatic weapons, and then a fire started in the building,” emergency services said.
Security forces are searching for the gunmen and there is no word on whether they are still in the building or alive. In a video that is circulating, the police forces show the arrest of a man who is said to be one of the terrorists, but nothing has been officially announced at the moment.

Due to the attack, Russian authorities have stepped up security measures at Moscow’s airports and train stations. At the same time, the mayor of Moscow announced that all major sporting, cultural and other public events will be canceled this weekend. The US embassy in Russia is urging its citizens to avoid the area, also describing the attack as “terrorist”.
John Kirby, a spokesman for the National Security Council, said the White House was working to gather more information about the attack. “Our thoughts will obviously be with the victims of this terrible, terrible shooting,” he said at a regularly scheduled press briefing.
The US State Department issued a statement to Americans in Moscow to avoid larger gatherings “for their own safety”, it said. He also asked the Americans in question to stay in touch with the State Department for further updates and information.
