Spanish badminton women’s SINGLES Carolina Marin emphasized her determination to win an Olympic gold medal again at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“My biggest desire is to win a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics,” said Marin, quoted from the official Olympic online page, Sunday (31/3).

The gold medalist at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics emphasized that sportsmanship and perseverance are the main assets in realizing his targets.

Moreover, Marin has suffered two serious knee injuries which require a long recovery period.

“I don’t know the percentage of my performance so far. However, I am sure I am in 100% condition to appear at the Olympics,” emphasized Marin.

Marin’s confidence grew after he won a number of BWF tours this year, including the All England, which is the most prestigious badminton championship.

Over the past five years, Marin’s performance has fluctuated. Since suffering a torn right knee ligament at the 2019 Indonesia Masters, Marin has faced a big challenge to return to the highest level.

Two years after the injury, Marin suffered an even more serious injury to his other knee. The injury not only tore his cruciate ligament but also both of his meniscus.

The injury caused him to miss the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In 2022, Marin decided to add a psychologist to his team.

“The aspect that I work on the most on a psychological level is my emotions, letting out emotions. After working a lot with psychologists, both off the field and on the field, I see what things can make me feel comfortable,” said Marin.

He believes that athletes often ignore mental health aspects. However, for Marin, this is one of the fundamental parts of the body.

“We no longer only talk about badminton, but also about other things off the court. Most importantly, believing in myself and regaining self-confidence has been the most important key for me,” concluded Marin. (Ant/Z-1)
