CarPlay is finally getting closer to Apple’s car

Apple has just lifted the veil on Car Play version iOS 16. A new completely revised version of the operating system dedicated to cars, since it goes from infotainment to the instrument cluster display system.

The new version of Apple Car Play becomes even more complete and autonomous under iOS 16. Indeed, previously confined to the car entertainment system, Car Play under iOS 16 now takes its place on the vehicle instrument cluster.

Apple announces that the iPhone will always play an important role, since it is he who will manage the information to be displayed on the screens of the car, in a secure manner. It will retrieve information (vehicle speed, temperature, engaged gear, etc.) from the vehicle (probably via Bluetooth, but also via USB) and then display it, with a style specific to iOS and Apple.

The American company specifies that CarPlay will adapt to all compatible vehicles, regardless of the shape and size of its screens. You will of course need a digital screen to be able to display iOS 16 information on the instrument cluster, in addition to the screen dedicated to infotainment. It will be possible for the driver to choose between different styles and colors.

Renault, Volvo, Mercedes and Audi are present

Finally, Apple specifies that the first complete Car Play systems will arrive at the end of next year. A list of builders participating in the project has been announced. We find Renault, Volvo, Mercedes, Land Rover, Porsche, Nissan, Ford, Lincoln, Audi, Jaguar, Acura, Honda, Infinity and Polestar. Definitely, Tesla does not seem to want to associate with Apple!
