“Since yesterday we have been accepting the strike, but we are asking our colleagues to please let us through, our tomatoes will spoil if we don’t unload today,” said farmer Víctor Gayme Romero.
He estimated that, on average, each truck transports between 10 to 15 tons of products. This load is valued between S/ 15,000 to S/ 20,000.
“We have to unload today if we want to rescue at least 70% of our merchandise. We did know about the strike, but in El Pedregal the vegetable harvest is only twice a week,” added the transporter.
