Carson Daly has been named co-anchor of NBC News’ Saturday TODAY, beginning Saturday, November 7. Daly will continue his weekday role as co-host of TODAY, expanding his duties to six days a week. He will debut on Saturday alongside co-anchor Laura Jarrett, feature anchor Joe Fryer, and meteorologist Angie Lassman.
Expanded Role for Daly
In his expanded role, Daly will bring his “trademark warmth, versatility and trusted voice to viewers live, six days a week,” according to NBCUniversal News Group. The announcement noted that Daly will also continue to host and executive produce NBC’s Emmy Award-winning competition series The Voice, a position he has maintained since the show’s premiere in 2011.
“Carson has been an integral part of the TODAY family for the past 13 years, and we are thrilled that our viewers get to spend one more day of the week with him,” said Libby Leist, Executive Vice President of TODAY and Lifestyle. “Carson and Laura make a great team, and we can’t wait for this fresh new chapter of Saturday TODAY.”
Daly’s History with NBC
In 2013, Daly became a member of the TODAY team by hosting the Orange Room, which serves as the show’s digital and social media center. He is known for his signature Pop Start segment, covering pop culture news, and has conducted interviews with prominent figures across music, sports, entertainment, and political and medical newsmakers. He has also been a passionate advocate for mental health awareness, serving on the Board of Directors for the nonprofit organization Project Healthy Minds.
“I’m thrilled to add Saturday TODAY to my weekday morning schedule. My kids asked if I’ll still make pancakes. I told them yes, but I’ll be making them for Laura, Joe and Angie instead,” Daly said. “I’m equal parts grateful and excited for this opportunity.”
Weekend TODAY Team
Saturday TODAY airs Saturday mornings on NBC. Matt Carluccio serves as executive producer of the weekend editions of the program. Daly’s appointment fills the void left by Peter Alexander, who departed the program in March and subsequently exited NBC News following over two decades to join MS NOW, per Adweek.
