Carter “lives” to vote for Kamala: At 100 years old, he votes via mail from Georgia

PLAINS, Georgia, United States (AP).—Jimmy Carter cast his vote yesterday for the 2024 election.

The former US president voted by mail, the Carter Center confirmed in a statement.

Just two weeks ago, Carter celebrated her 100th birthday on Oct. 1 at her home in Plains, Georgia, where she is receiving hospice care.

His son, Chip Carter, said before the family meeting that his father was very aware of this election.

“He’s very attentive,” Chip Carter told The Associated Press. “Two months ago, I asked him if he would try to live to be 100, and he said, ‘No, I’m going to try to live to vote for Kamala Harris.’”

In the brief statement, the Carter Center said it had no further details to share.

Georgia’s registered voters have turned out to vote in record numbers since early voting began Tuesday. As of yesterday afternoon, about 460,000 had turned out to vote in person or had submitted absentee ballots, Secretary of Government Brad Raffensperger said.

Carter’s vote should count even if he is no longer alive by Election Day, Nov. 5.
