Rabat – Elements of the judicial police brigade under the security district of Sidi Bernoussi in Casablanca succeeded, Tuesday morning, in close coordination with the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), to defeat an attempt to smuggle 18,010 psychotropic tablets and ecstasy on board a road freight truck.
This security operation allowed the seizure of this cargo immediately after its arrival at the entrance to the Casablanca ring road, indicates a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), specifying that the searches of the truck led to the discovery of 18,000 tablets of the “Rivotril” type and 10 units of ecstasy, carefully concealed in the cabin of the vehicle.
The operation also allowed the arrest of the driver of the truck, aged 42, according to the same source.
The accused was placed in police custody at the disposal of the investigation carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, to determine all the ramifications and to arrest the possible accomplices in this criminal activity.
This qualitative operation is part of the intense and continuous efforts made by the security services to fight against drug and psychotropic trafficking operations at the national and international levels, the statement concludes.
