Casio Unveils Analog G-Shock 2500 Series

Casio has introduced its analog G-Shock 2500 series in India, blending the shock-resistant durability of the 1983 original with a redesigned dial and a clever multi-mission date display, with retail prices ranging from Rs 9,995 to Rs 26,995.

The watchmaker is stripping away digital swagger in favor of pure restraint. The new G-Shock 2500 series launched in Delhi, abandoning digital displays, solar charging, and Bluetooth connectivity for a fully analog build rooted in the functional design of the iconic DW-5000C. That 1981 engineering effort—sparked when engineer Kikuo Ibe shattered a gifted timepiece and spent two years testing over 200 prototypes by dropping them from a third-floor washroom window—now underpins a mechanical-style approach designed to win over traditionalists and high-end collectors alike.

Takuto Kimura on Why Watch Collectors Keep G-Shock

Serious collectors who keep safes lined with Rolexes and Omegas routinely carve out space for a G-Shock, a phenomenon Casio India managing director Takuto Kimura addressed during the launch at the Andaz Delhi by Hyatt hotel in Aerocity on October 22, 2026. Rather than framing the brand as a competitor to luxury Swiss timepieces, Kimura pointed to a distinct cultural crossover.

No, G-Shock is more like a different segmentation. So definitely, complementary. We cannot really put G-Shock and Rolex in the same category.

Kimura explained that collectors who own pieces from Patek Philippe or Longines are drawn to G-Shock because G-Shock is totally different from them, functioning more as a centerpiece of street culture, art, sports, and music.

Resin and Metal Variants Feature Multi-Mission Date

The 2500 series splits into two distinct families: four resin-clad variants in the GAC-2500 range and five metal-clad variants in the GMC-2500 collection. Built around the new Casio 5757 quartz module, the watches introduce the Multi-Mission Date feature, housed in a three-cell window at the 3 o’clock position.

Operating entirely through analog hands, the watch uses this three-cell window at the three o’clock position to dynamically show the calendar date, stopwatch elapsed time, or setting details. Once configured, the full auto-calendar automatically handles odd-length months and leap years through 2099 without manual correction.

Reviewers testing the all-metal G-Shock GMC-2500D-1A note a clever stopwatch operation: pressing the 8 o’clock pusher shifts the date wheel to read “ST”, after which the pusher at 4 o’clock starts the timer while the seconds hand counts seconds and the date wheel tracks elapsed minutes. Meanwhile, the hour and minute hands continue telling time normally.

Global Pricing, Specifications, and Community Debate

Reviewers and community members have debated the design choices, pointing out hard-to-press buttons, prominent bezel lettering reading G-SHOCK PROTECTION, and a standard coin-cell battery rated for roughly two years. Users can extend battery life up to five years by disabling the small-seconds subdial located at the 9 o’clock position.

The lineup features a magnetic Shock Release Hand mechanism allowing hands to shift under hard impacts rather than bend, alongside mineral glass, an amber LED light, and 200-metre water resistance.

Model Range India Pricing UK / Australia / Regional Pricing
Resin GAC-2500 Collection Rs 9,995 £110
Resin-Steel Hybrid GMC-2500 Models Up to Rs 26,995 AUD $459 – AUD $499
All-Steel GMC-2500D Variants Up to Rs 26,995 £300 (UK)

While regional releases hit shelves with stores stocking the watches on November 7 following debriefs at the Andaz Delhi, watch enthusiasts continue to weigh whether the stripped-down, analog-only engineering philosophy represents a bold step forward or a departure from traditional multi-alarm functionality.
