The revelation was made through a tweet posted on Sunday afternoon. “I hope you respect me, I’m gay,” read the former Spain captain’s tweet. The actor, who deleted it, said that his account had been hacked and luckily everything was fine. The actor also tweeted that he apologized to his fans and the LGBT community. Cassius has 9.6 million followers on Twitter.
The tweet that he was gay led to a lot of discussion. Former Spain teammate Carlos Puyol came out in support of the 41-year-old.
Cassius ended his marriage to sports journalist Sarah Carbonero in March 2021. The separation was after five years of marriage. They have two boys.
Cassius is the player who wore the gloves in 510 matches for Real Madrid. He has been involved in many titles such as three Champions League, five La Liga, four Super Copa and two Copa del Rey. Between 2000 and 2016, Spain won 167 matches. He won the 2010 World Cup and the 2000 Euro Cup for his country. Kassius is considered one of the best goalkeepers in football history. He retired in 2020 after suffering a heart attack while training at Portuguese club Porto, who last wore the jersey.
