Castile and Leon 1 – Valencia 0

It has been too long since the conjunctural readings have prevailed over the structural ones. In other words, short-term politics makes it increasingly difficult to identify future problems, establish possible scenarios and seek solutions before they spill over or become entrenched. Reality that in times of hyperbole and emotional discourse prevents us from observing the facts from reason: affections are appealed to excessively, even more so if they incorporate victimhood, does that ring a bell?

It happens with regional financing, a structural problem, not a circumstantial one. And from there comes the problem for the Valencians. Being the worst financed autonomy for more than a decade, with a colossal debt for this cause, it still does not see a solution while the short political speeches address without complex realities of the emptied Spain or the tiresome steak.

With the added factor of the times of a policy marked, more than ever, by the electoral calls. One could almost say that we are constantly on the campaign trail, which avoids serene debates that affect issues that require a sensible and fair reflection, in the most Aristotelian sense of the term.

Look but the imaginary created in the elections of Castilla-León (to which the journalist Alfons García also pointed yesterday); context in which the leader of the PP, Pablo Casado, has defended conditions for the new financing system that directly harms what Valencians demand. The emptied Spain, that of the farms and macro-farms, is victimized in front of the populated Spain, in an electoral key. We will see later how the problems of these geographies affected by depopulation are addressed.

The PP knows that without their participation the change in the financing model is impossible; he will only address it if one day he presides over the Government

The PP knows that without its participation the change in the financing model is impossible, and its bet grows towards that Spain where the right feels strong and grows, in fear of the rise of Vox (there is a lot of conflict between the countryside and the city in this conflict, nothing new, has happened in the UK with Brexit and in the US in the presidential elections).

The PP has given clear signs that it will not consider addressing the issue until it wins and recovers the Government. Meanwhile, Pedro Sánchez’s executive wants to buy time or directly does not want to get into this mess until the electoral scenario is cleared. His movements, in this regard, are few and timid.

In other words, since 2014 there has always been an excuse not to face a problem in which the Valencian Community is left almost alone in claiming. The Generalitat de Catalunya, which could be an ally, goes to his ball, and even finances campaigns for Catalan in some media that generate discomfort in the only autonomy willing to establish bridges. Proof of the null political empathy of Pere Aragonés.

But in the Valencian Community, political, social, media and business unity is a reality. The experts, of great prestige, have made it clear in a solid report that the only gesture of the Treasury to address the change of model, which is the document on the adjusted population, harms the Valencians.

Faced with the weakness of the Government, the Valencian unity is total around the change in financing

And that the Government should establish a leveling fund to compensate for the under-financing suffered by the Valencian Community; in addition to addressing the way to reduce the monstrous debt that paralyzes the capacity for political action of the Generalitat Valenciana beyond maintaining the quality of its essential services.

There are elections in Castilla y León, there will be later in Andalusia, and later the regional and local ones will come, where there will be not a few autonomies that will oppose – it has already happened – to the Valencian demands. It is a well-known scenario: but we have been fighting for the Mediterranean corridor for the area that exports the most in Spain for 20 years when there is already AVE to almost all the capitals of the emptied Spain!

And the legislature, regional and state, will end, and the financing system will not have changed. I am still pessimistic, but, for now, Castilla y León 1, Comunidad Valenciana 0.
