Cataldo (PC) to Subdere: Opposition accuses “consolation prize” and appointment causes discomfort in the DR | National

The Government appointed the militant of the Communist Party, Nicolás Cataldo, as the new Undersecretary of Regional Development. The opposition described him as a “consolation prize”, after his frustrated arrival at the Interior, and the Executive assured that the criticisms are a lack of respect.

The process of cabinet change or readjustment culminated. This after -finally- the modifications or changes in the undersecretaries were announced.

The Undersecretary of Defense was left in charge of the socialist Gabriel Gaspar (PS); Undersecretary of Cultural Heritage, with Carolina Pérez (RD) and there was a change in another 4, of these, the one that attracted the most attention was that of Nicolás Cataldo, who resigned from the undersecretary of education to take over as undersecretary of regional development.

Let us remember that Cataldo was aware of the cabinet change that took place on Tuesday. This after his failed appointment to the Undersecretary of the Interior, his tweets where controversial statements towards the police and criticism from the opposition were read.

Finally, Manuel Monsalve continued in his position and today the new direction that Cataldo will take in the government was known.

The criticism did not stop. In fact, the deputy and vice president of National Renewal, Sofía Cid said that this is only a consolation prize that responds to the pressure of the PC.

Faced with the questions, the government spokesperson, Camila Vallejo, was clear in saying that this is nothing more than a complete lack of respect.

What did they point out about the PC? The caucus chief, deputy Boris Barrera reported that they have never asked for any type of position and, in fact, pointed to anti-communism.

But this not only generated annoyance in the opposition, but also in the ruling party, since Miguel Crispi, who was from Sebdere and goes up to the second floor in charge of the Presidential Commitments Monitoring Unit, is from the Democratic Revolution, a party that has already left of the Political Committee.

Sources from La Radio reported that the community was very upset by the decision. Araceli Farías, secretary general of the Democratic Revolution, referred to the issue.

Another designation that became known was that of the former socialist conventionalist, Ricardo Montero, who took over as chief of staff of the new Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá.

Montero was not only at the Convention, but during the second government of President Michelle Bachelet, he worked as chief of staff for the ministers of Defense (2014-2015) and Interior and Public Security (2015-2017), assuming this position again today thursday.

Despite the fact that they are from the same party, Senator Fidel Espinoza said that they will have no relationship with this type of character and called on the Government not to count on him if they begin to incorporate conventional workers in positions of this level. While the deputy Marcos Ilabaca congratulated the appointment.
