Tour of Italy. Covid, stage victory … What objectives on the Tour of Italy for Warren Barguil?
2023-05-06 04:05:00
“Yes, it’s an objective to enter this circle of riders who have won on the three Grand Tours. I have done a good part of the work, two thirds, I have one third left, ”said the 31-year-old Breton climber on Friday on the eve of the start.
With his two victories on the roads of the Vuelta in 2013 and two others on those of the Tour de France in 2017, the Morbihannais with an attacking temperament has already made an impression.
He now dreams of shining in the Tour of Italy which he is competing for the first time, just like his Arkéa-Samsic formation, which has just risen in the World Tour, the first division of world cycling.
“I am not a sprinter. I’m not going to say it’s easier for them, but for a rider like me it’s more complicated. I hope to carry out this quest for victory, ”he added with a smile.
The Breton however does not arrive in the best conditions since he tested positive for Covid-19 just following Liège-Bastogne-Liège, which he abandoned on April 23.

“I never said to myself that it wasn’t possible, I took my time, without driving too much,” he said.
His plan is to “recover as much as possible during the first week to be on the attack for the last two weeks which promise to be epic”.
He will then try to slip into a breakaway and demonstrate his qualities as an adventurous climber.
“The Giro is a race that is always very uncertain, very open with a lot of breakaways that come to the end, that can suit me,” he insisted.
“We come to accompany him in his quest for success, that’s the basic objective”, commented his sports director, Yvon Caër who says he is “widely optimistic so that Warren can regain all his abilities”.
“The evening in Liège we wondered regarding his state of health. But I remain convinced that it was a relatively mild Covid. It will take a few days to adapt to the distance and intensity. But from the second week, it will be 100%, ”he assured.

“Monitoring Mother’s Mental Health: Tips for Recognizing and Preventing Depression in Elderly Mothers on Mother’s Day and Beyond”
2023-05-06 04:13:42
Although Mother’s Day is presented as a special date to accompany and surprise mom, monitoring a mother’s mental health must be permanent and be attentive to possible symptoms of depression.
“Empty nest” is a stage in the life of mothers which refers to the fact of seeing the children leave so that they can consolidate their own families. It is common for it to generate a strong feeling of melancholy, assured Mauro Cerón, coordinator of the Psychology program at the Private University of the North (UPN)who provided some tips for keeping an eye on Mom’s mental health.
Although Mother’s Day is presented as a special date to accompany and surprise mom, Cerón points out that monitoring a mother’s mental health must be permanent and be attentive to possible symptoms of depression.
“Children should never forget all the love that a mother gave them since they were born. She will always remember that she revealed herself to serve them and accompany them when they were cold, hungry or afraid. If there is love, her children will easily find the spaces and moments for her to care for her and do for her the same thing that she demonstrated: unconditional love ”he says.
For Mauro Cerón, the lack of an activity that generates income and the acceptance of seeing how the years limit their physical abilities, increases feelings of melancholy in older adults, which can lead to depression if family members neglect mom in the stage of “Empty nest”.

“At UPN we are committed to providing our students with a quality education, but also to sharing our academic knowledge with the community to generate well-being. The family of an elderly mother must be attentive to certain behaviors, such as isolation, little dialogue, a lost look when spoken to, comments of reluctance, lack of interest in those things that previously called her attention, and a low voice when communicate your mood”, he warned.
Cerón identified some care that children should apply with an elderly mother who lives alone and that we should all take into account on the next Mother’s Day:
- Listening is essential: The UPN specialist warns that the speech of the elderly can be repetitive, but it is important to attend to them.
- Create pleasant walking spaces: Take her where she feels happy. You don’t need a large budget, the goal is for mom to feel accompanied by her.
- Identify appropriate activities: a fundamental aspect is to make them feel useful. For this, it is recommended to make a list of actions where mom might participate and motivate her to carry out any of them.
- Go to the psychologist: the evaluation of a professional, once a month, is important. In this way, cognitive, affective and social processes will be evaluated and any indication of a mental health problem will be mitigated.

Free Practice 2 of the Miami Grand Prix took place, following a first session dominated by the Mercedes. The 20 drivers returned to the track at the Miami International Autodrome for a second hour of testing.
Carlos Sainz signed the first reference, quickly beaten by Charles Leclerc, then by Alex Albon who came between the two Ferraris. Sergio Pérez took the lead, Pierre Gasly was third, and Max Verstappen got everyone to agree in 1’30″146.
These drivers were on medium tyres, and Leclerc improved to 1’29.497, while the Mercedes drivers returned to the track. George Russell set the seventh fastest time, behind the astonishing Logan Sargeant, solid at the start of the session.
Esteban Ocon took fifth, and Nico Hülkenberg returned to the top 10. The Haas driver had no severe damage following his EL1 crash. His team-mate, Kevin Magnussen, came out at the chicane and touched the wall slightly, but was able to restart.
Verstappen once more took the best time in 1’29″380. Russell moved up to fourth place, still on medium tires. Fernando Alonso set the sixth fastest time, and Albon took ninth place from Sargeant. Lewis Hamilton s is placed seventh.
Verstappen complained regarding his headrest and had to stay in the pits while the team put it back in place and checked the attachment of this protective piece. Jo Bauer, the FIA safety delegate, even came to check in the garage that the car was up to standard.
The drivers put on soft rubbers, and the McLarens took the lead, Lando Norris setting a 1’28″741, while Oscar Piastri was placed just behind. Alonso got in between, before Sainz overtook him. Leclerc had gone to overtake Norris but missed in the last sector.
Pérez set the fourth fastest time ahead of Piastri, and Albon took third position. Verstappen improved to 1’28″255. Sainz closed to 0″060, but the Dutchman accelerated to 1’27″930.
The second part of the session was devoted to testing long runs, in order to work on the race. But regarding ten minutes from the end of the session, Leclerc lost control in turn 9 around the Marina.
The Monegasque lost the rear of the car, corrected the trajectory and raced straight towards the TecPros, failing to stop his car in the visibly dusty clearing.
Verstappen was unbeaten and leads Sainz and Leclerc, while Pérez is fourth. Alonso follows ahead of Norris, Hamilton, Stroll, Ocon and Albon, then the other Alpine de Gasly, 11th. Russell is only 15th ahead of Piastri, while the AlphaTauri are 18th and 19th, and Sargeant last.
The gaps are tight since there is less than a second between the second and the fourteenth. This promises an interesting weekend, especially in qualifying.
