Nissan is recalling more than 640,000 vehicles, all Rogue SUVs, due to separate issues involving potential engine failures and broken throttle body gears, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced. The recalls impact model years 2023 through 2025, raising concerns about engine fires and loss of power.
The largest of the two recalls affects 323,917 model year 2023-2025 Nissan Rogue SUVs. According to the NHTSA, these vehicles are equipped with a 1.5-liter (KR15DDT) variable compression (VC Turbo) engine and may experience bearing failure. This failure could lead to the discharge of hot oil, increasing the risk of both an engine fire and a complete loss of drive power. Pickup Truck +SUV Talk first reported details of the engine failure recall.
Nissan dealers will address the engine issue by reprogramming the engine control software, performing a diagnostic inspection, and conducting a test drive – all at no cost to vehicle owners. The automaker is also recalling an additional 318,781 model year 2024-2025 Rogue SUVs due to fractured throttle body gears. These broken gears can result in a loss of drive power and potentially prevent drivers from being able to restart their vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash, as LiveNOW from FOX reported.
Nissan plans to begin notifying affected customers via mail in March 2026. This recall follows a similar action in January, where the company recalled over 26,000 model year 2025 Sentra and Altima sedans, 2025-2026 Frontier pickup trucks, and 2026 Kicks SUVs due to improperly welded door strikers that could pose a safety risk.
These latest recalls come amid a broader trend of automotive safety concerns. Earlier this year, Stellantis issued a “do not drive” warning for 225,000 vehicles due to dangerous air bag issues, and Chrysler recalled over 80,000 vehicles due to potentially detaching springs. USA Today provides further coverage of recent automotive recalls.
The NHTSA encourages owners of affected vehicles to ensure their vehicles are properly addressed once Nissan’s recall notices are received. Vehicle owners can also check for recall information using their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA website.
Nissan’s response to these issues will be closely watched as the company works to restore consumer confidence and address potential safety hazards. The automaker’s proactive approach to notifying customers and providing free repairs is a critical step in mitigating the risks associated with these recalls.
As Nissan prepares to mail recall notices in March 2026, owners of potentially affected Rogue SUVs should monitor their mail and be prepared to schedule service appointments. The company’s commitment to resolving these issues will be key to ensuring the safety of its customers.
