The National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (inmetro) recently released a new edition of the list of its Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program (PBEV) with the most economical cars available in the domestic market.

The list already includes new models and new generations of vehicles launched in recent months, such as the Chevrolet Montana and the latest Honda HR-V. Check out, below, the most economical cars in the categories according to gasoline consumption.

We start with the smallest. In the subcompact category, the Renault Kwid appears as the most economical car in Brazil. The model equipped with the 1.0 12V flex engine makes 15.3 km/l in the city and 15.7 km/l on the highway with gasoline.

Already with ethanol, the Kwid reaches 10.8 km/l in the city and 11.0 km/l on the highway. Its rival Fiat Mobi, equipped with a 1.0 8V flex engine, reaches 13.5 km/l in the city and 15.0 km/l on the highway with gasoline. With alcohol, the car does 9.6 km/l in the city and 10.4 km/l on the road.

In the compact hatchback segment, the Peugeot 208 Like won. With the 1.0 Firefly three-cylinder engine from FCA – Fiat Chrysler Automóveis, the car does 14.7 km/l in urban cycle and 16.3 km/l on highway with gasoline.

With alcohol, the 208 Like reaches 10.4 km/l in the city and 11.3 km/l on the road, according to Inmetro. Next comes the Volkswagen Polo 1.0 turboflex (with 14.0 km/l in the city and 16.4 km/l on the highway) with gasoline, in addition to 9.6 km/l in the city and 11.5 km/l on the highway with ethanol.

Still in the category, the Hyundai HB20 1.0 appears with 13.4 km/l (city) and 14.6 km/l (road) with gasoline. With ethanol, the car does 9.4 km/l in the city and 10.6 km/l on the highway. The Fiat Argo Drive 1.0 with gasoline makes 13.4 km/l (city) and 14.6 km/l (road).

In turn, with ethanol, the Fiat hatch reaches 9.3 km/l in the city and 10.3 km/l on the highway. The Chevrolet Onix 1.0 comes in 4th position with 13.3 km/l in the city and an incredible 16.6 km/l on the road with gasoline, in addition to 9.4 km/l (city) and 11.6 km/l ( road) with ethanol.

The Chevrolet Onix did not win among the hatches, but it did well in the sedan category. With an aspirated 1.0 engine, the Onix Plus scores no less than 13.6 km/l in the city and 17.5 km/l on the road with gasoline thanks to the six-speed manual transmission.

The Italian Fiat Cronos 1.0 achieved 14.0 km/l in the city and 16.1 km/l on the road with gasoline. In turn, the Renault Logan 1.0 makes 13.6 km / l in the city and 14.4 km / l on the road with gasoline. With ethanol, the model reached 9.6 km/l (city) 9.8 km/l (road).

Until last month, it was difficult to compete with the hybrid Corolla on the Inmetro list, but the new Honda Civic arrived and the story changed. The new generation of the Honda model came with a more efficient and modern hybrid technology than the Corolla.

The Civic, with gasoline only, does 18.3 km/l in the city and 15.9 km/l on the highway. The hybrid Corolla registers 17.9 and 15.4 km/l, respectively. Despite close numbers, Honda’s medium sedan won in this dispute.

We arrived at the largest and most economical compact SUV in Brazil, according to the Inmetro list, it is the Fiat Pulse, with a 1.3 liter aspirated engine. The Italian automaker’s model does 12.5 km/l in the city and 14.4 km/l on the road when fueled with gasoline.

The Fastback Audace (1.0 turbo) recorded the best gasoline consumption on the road, at 14.6 km/l (in the city, it is 11.9 km/l). The Honda HR-V 1.5 stands out in urban performance, with 12.7 km/l (the road mark is 13.9 km/l).

The T-Cross, in turn, ties with the Pulse in terms of fuel consumption on a road circuit (14.4km/l). But in the city, it goes a little worse, with 12 km / l.

From now on, hybrids are starting to gain space. The number 1 of medium SUVs is the Jeep Compass 4xe, which makes 26.1 km/l in the urban cycle and 24.7 km/l on the highway. Another hybrid, the Corolla Cross, deserves an honorable mention here.

The Toyota model 17.8 km/l in the city and 14.7 km/l on the road with gasoline and costs much less than the competitors, around R$ 200 thousand. Compass 4xe is a plug-in hybrid. The Corolla Cross has the same technology as the sedan of the same name.

This group has SUVs that are slightly larger than the midsize, but still not large. Among them there is the Jeep Commander and the Caoa Chery Tiggo 8. It is this last model that takes the title of the one with the best consumption in the respective category.

The plug-in hybrid version of the Tiggo 8 makes 30.3 km/l in the city and 26.9 km/l on the road circuit. The segment has another hybrid model, the Toyota RAV4, which makes 17.1 km/l in urban cycles and 14.7 km/l on highways, according to Inmetro.

In models with a bucket, the single-cab Fiat Strada with a 1.3 liter aspirated engine and manual transmission leads with 12.9 km/l in the city and 14.7 km/l on highways with gasoline. The model with double cabin, on the other hand, does 12.5 km/l and 14.3 km/l, respectively.

However, the new Montana deserves an honorable mention. About 20 cm larger than the Fiat Strada, the GM model recorded, in its versions with manual transmission and a more efficient 1.2 turbo engine, 12 km/l in the city and 13.6 km/l on highways with gasoline.

Finally, in diesel pickups, the most economical in Brazil is the Fiat Toro. Its diesel version, 4×4, does 10.5 km/l in the city and 13 km/l on the highway. The utility is lighter than rivals and has a good nine-speed automatic transmission to aid efficiency.

However, for those who need a more robust pickup, built on a chassis, know that in this group the best consumption is the Toyota Hilux. The model makes 10.3 km/l of diesel in the city and 11.8 km/l on the road circuit, remembering that with diesel.
