The National Council of Catholic Bishops (CBCN) has called on the government to intensify efforts to find and bring to justice the terrorists who attacked the church named following St. Francis in Owo, Nigeria.

The bishops also warn that if the government fails to expedite the investigation, the country will accelerate into anarchy. Appointed Bishop Lucius Ugori, President of the Bishops’ Conference, said he strongly condemned the atrocities that took the lives of innocent people in the Temple of God.

The terrorist attack took place on Sunday (05/06/22), the fifth day of Pentecost. At least 60 people, including women and children, have been shot dead by Islamist militants during a service at a Catholic church in the name of St. Francis of Assisi in the southeastern Nigerian city of Onto.
