Causes of anorexia – Hossam Mowafi: A symptom of more than one disease

Dr. Hossam Mowafi, a professor of critical cases at the Faculty of Medicine, Kasr Al-Ainy, warned against the absence of a constant feeling of hunger, because loss of appetite may be an indication of some diseases.

Mowafi said, during his hosting of the “Bab Al-Khalq” program, presented by the journalist Mahmoud Saad, that loss of appetite may indicate a deficiency in the activity of the pituitary gland.

The professor of critical care medicine added that pituitary insufficiency is more prevalent among women, especially after childbirth, appealing to mothers who suffer from anorexia to quickly seek medical help.

He explained that not feeling hungry may have psychological dimensions, adding that anorexia is a serious disorder that reduces a person’s desire to eat, so those affected usually suffer from thinness and malnutrition.

Mowafi concluded his speech by pointing out the need to go to the doctor when feeling a loss of appetite, to conduct the necessary tests, such as analyzing kidney function, and if the results show the integrity of organic health, one should immediately go to a psychologist.

According to WebMD, there are other diseases that cause not feeling hungry, some of which are physical and others psychological, most notably:

– Stress.

– Depression.

– Colds.
