Causes of right shoulder pain- Hossam Mowafi warns: A symptom of a serious disease

Dr. Hossam Mowafi, Professor of Critical Cases at the Faculty of Medicine, Kasr Al-Ainy, stressed the need to visit a doctor immediately following feeling pain in the right shoulder, as it may be a symptom of a serious disease.

Mowafi said, during his hosting of the “Bab Al-Khalq” program, presented by the journalist Mahmoud Saad, that right shoulder pain might indicate angina pectoris.

The professor of critical care medicine confirmed that most people believe that angina pain occurs only in the middle of the chest, behind the sternum, which is not true, but can also be felt in the shoulders, neck and back.

He explained that the pain in the right shoulder becomes evidence of angina pectoris, if the person feels heartburn as well, pointing out the importance of doing an electrocardiogram as soon as possible.

Muwafi pointed out that the heartburn that warns of angina pectoris is characterized by some characteristics, most notably:

– You don’t find acidity medicines working with it.

Feeling it when doing any physical activity, such as climbing stairs and running.

– It occurs immediately following the emotion.

Suffering from it following consuming cold drinks.
