Goaltender Cayden Primeau allowed the Montreal Canadiens to steal a point from the Philadelphia Flyers in a 3-2 shootout loss Wednesday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
The young man who grew up in Pennsylvania was very solid in his ninth game of the season. He turned away 37 of the 39 pucks sent in his direction and notably made seven saves in overtime, including a small miracle in the final moments of it.
Primeau was only thwarted by Sean Couturier during the shootout, while his teammates were unable to hit the target during the final stage of the match.
The Habs nevertheless scored the first two goals of the clash. In the second minute of play, Sean Monahan deflected a shot from Justin Barron behind the back of goalkeeper Samuel Ersson. It was his 12th goal in 18 games against the Flyers since the start of his career.
Ten minutes later, on the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge’s second and final shot in this initial period, David Savard doubled the visitors’ lead.
Owen Tippett cut the lead in half before the end of the period and Morgan Frost took advantage of a power play to level the score in the second period.
On this success, defenseman Jamie Drysdale obtained his first point in a Flyers uniform. It was his first game with his new team, he who was obtained Monday in the transaction that sent Cutter Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks.
In front of the crowd favorites’ net, Ersson was only challenged 19 times.
