León, Gto., March 6, 2023.- The State Institute of Culture through the Coordination Fomento al Libro y la Lectura will celebrate International Women’s Day with a state meeting of reading experiences of librarians, teachers, promoters and mediators of reading from the National Program of Reading Rooms.
with the title of Feminine gazes in reading mediation in Guanajuato: Reflections on A Room of One’s Own, by Virginia Woolf, This meeting aims to recognize women readers in Guanajuato to make visible their role in building the bridge between books and people so that they adopt reading as an essential element in their lives.
Strengthen the recognition of the work that women, through different commemorative frameworks such as International Women’s Day, is part of the actions that, to promote equity, guide the work of the State Institute of Culture.
Published in 1929, “A Room of One’s Own” is an essay in which British writer Virginia Woolf reflects on women writers and fictional characters situated in a male-dominated literary tradition. It is considered a feminist text and takes as its starting point the lectures that the writer prepared for the women’s colleges of the University of Cambridge.
Talk regarding own roomby Virginia Woolf, is a provocation, an excuse for the women of Guanajuato to talk through different generational voices regarding their experiences as mediators: the most significant texts and pretexts and the literary melting pot that most favored their empowerment and intellectual freedom.
The venues for these meetings will be Acámbaro, on March 8, at the Maguadan Public Library; on March 9, at the Efraín Huerta de Celaya Library and on March 10, at the Wigberto Jiménez Moreno State Central Library, in León and Esperanza Zambrano in Dolores Hidalgo, all at 12:00 noon.
