The decisive matches of the Centenary Cup of Russian Volleyball were held at the Yantarny Sports Palace. The trophy, which will next be played in 2123, was contested by players from Dynamo Moscow and Zenit Kazan. On the way to the final, the club from Kazan sent Novosibirsk Lokomotiv to the bronze match, and the capital’s Dynamo eliminated Zenit (St. Petersburg) from the fight. Loko, led by Kaliningrad native Konstantin Abaev, with the support of local fans, took bronze in three games. But the winner of the main prize was determined in a dramatic five-set match.

The final between the two best clubs in the country today turned out to be the kind that happens once every hundred years. The total advantage of the Kazan team made us remember the golden series of 2023. For the Muscovites, at some point the court shrank to the size of a matchbox, and most of the attacks ended with shots out of bounds. Zenit finished off Dynamo with aces and flights to the net by Mikhail Labinsky. The script for the next game was written as a carbon copy, including the score 25:17 in favor of the Russian champions.

The Zenit team only had to reach out and take the cup. But Romanas Shkulevicius, who scored the most incredible goals, woke up his partners: Vlasov began to play on the block, Syomyshev began to hit the court. Patience and courage – these are the components that allowed the capital club to move the game to a tiebreaker. In the fifth game, the teams reset and played another segment of super volleyball. We retrieved dead balls and looked for opponents’ mistakes on video replays. The golden ace was performed by Denis Bogdan, who managed to serve for elimination for the first time in the match.
