Son of ex-president shot dead in Honduras
One of the sons of former Honduran President Porfirio Lobo was killed leaving a nightclub on Thursday, along with three other young people.
Four people, including the son of former Honduran president Porfirio Lobo, were shot dead on Thursday leaving a nightclub in the capital Tegucigalpa, according to the former head of state and the police.
Porfirio Lobo told local media that heavily armed individuals “forced the youths out of cars” and shot them “almost like in a commando operation”. He added that his son Said, 23, had been killed and that his other son Luis, also present but in another vehicle, was unharmed.
In the parking lot
According to the police, the crime took place in the underground parking lot of the nightclub building. CCTV footage broadcast by the HCH channel showed hooded individuals armed with rifles intercepting a vehicle and forcing their occupants to get off and stand against a wall. Another of the youths who died is the nephew of retired general Romeo Vasquez, who in 2009 led a coup against then-President Manuel Zelaya.
Porfirio Lobo, who led Honduras from 2010 to 2014, has a third son, Fabio, who is currently serving a 24-year sentence in the United States for drug trafficking. The former president’s wife, Rosa Bonilla, is also in prison in Tegucigalpa for acts of corruption committed when she was the country’s first lady.
