Central Florida Heatwave: Temperatures to Reach 88° This Week

by

Central Florida residents are bracing for a dramatic shift in weather conditions, with near-record high temperatures expected Friday and Saturday before a sharp cold front sweeps through the region this weekend.

Temperatures are forecast to reach between 87 and 88 degrees Fahrenheit on Friday, potentially surpassing the year’s current high of 87 degrees, according to WESH 2 News. Leesburg and Sanford are also expected to reach 88 degrees on Saturday, while other areas, including Daytona and Millburn, will notice temperatures in the mid-80s. The warmth is attributed to high pressure offshore towards the Atlantic.

The reprieve from the unseasonably warm weather will be short-lived. A cold front is expected to arrive Sunday, bringing scattered showers in the morning and a significant drop in temperatures by the afternoon and evening. Overnight lows are predicted to fall into the 30s and 40s across Central Florida, with the possibility of freezing temperatures in northern counties early Tuesday.

The rapid change in weather also brings increased fire concerns. The air behind the front will be very dry, and winds are expected to gust between 30 and 35 mph from Sunday evening through Monday. Monday will remain breezy and cold, with high temperatures only reaching the 50s and low 60s.

The WESH report noted that current temperatures across much of Central Florida are already 10 to 15 degrees above seasonal averages, which typically range from 72 to 75 degrees this time of year.
