Central Mexico Clashes: 14 Killed in Gang Violence

MEXICO CITY — At least 14 people were killed in clashes between residents of a small farming community in Mexico and gunmen from a criminal gang, local authorities said Saturday. Seven people injured in the attack are undergoing treatment. Mexico state police said the clashes took place in the village of Texcaltitlan, regarding 80 miles (130 kilometers) southwest of the capital. Officials said 10 of the dead were members of criminal gangs and four were villagers.

Images of violence are circulating on social media. Mexico state governor Delfina Gomez and other local leaders condemned the violence. The authorities said that maintaining law and order is their priority and these incidents do not discourage us, on the contrary, they will intensify efforts to improve the security situation. Officials said efforts will be made to prevent incidents like this from happening once more.
