Ceremony in Honor of African Lion 2023 Participants in Agadir: Strengthening Military Cooperation for Regional Security and Stability

Agadir – A ceremony was organized on Thursday at the headquarters of the South Zone General Staff in Agadir, in honor of the representatives of the countries participating in the “African Lion 2023” exercise, which is being held in accordance with the High Instructions of His Majesty the King, Supreme Leader and Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).

Speaking on this occasion, Major General, Inspector General of the FAR and Commander of the Southern Zone, Mohammed Berrid stressed that the “African Lion” exercise constitutes an annual meeting for the strengthening of military cooperation with a view to promote regional and international security and stability.

It is also an “opportunity to strengthen the capacities of our forces to meet the challenges and support the geostrategic and geopolitical changes that require the unification of everyone’s efforts”, he added.

In this sense, he stressed that the Kingdom of Morocco’s attachment to the principles of peace, security and coexistence has always been at the center of the High Guidelines of His Majesty the King, Supreme Head and Head of State- Major General of the FAR.

For his part, Army General Michael Langley, Commander of the American Command for Africa “AFRICOM”, indicated that “for nearly 250 years, Morocco has remained a trusted ally for the United States”, noting that this exercise is a demonstration of this historic friendship between the two countries.

And to add that “African Lion is more than a simple military exercise”, assuring that it represents an example of the action of the African States working in favor of the reinforcement of security.

“This exercise brings together allies and partners to build bridges between countries and continents,” he stressed.

This ceremony took place in the presence of the Governor of the American State of Utah, Spencer Cox, Major General Michael J. Turley of the National Guard of the American State of Utah and Brigadier General Brian T Cashman, Deputy Commanding General, Task Force Southern Europe, Africa, United States Army.

“African Lion” is a combined joint exercise organized each year by the FAR and the American Armed Forces.

This exercise, which will continue until June 16, in seven regions of Morocco, namely Agadir, Tan-Tan, Mehbes, Tiznit, Kenitra, Benguerir and Tifnit, is an annual meeting which contributes to consolidating Moroccan military cooperation. and also to strengthen the exchange between the armed forces of different countries in order to promote security and stability in the region.
