Chainsaw Man did not remove the censorship of the kiss on the Blu-ray — Kudasai

Some still wonder why Japanese fans keep buying the physical packs i.e. the Blu-ray/DVDs and the main reason is acquisition benefits that include themed items that you can’t get anywhere else. However, another aspect of interest in purchasing these expensive bundles is the fact that fans want to watch the series in question completely uncensored. And we don’t mean seeing genitals or breasts, but seeing the product that the animators really wanted to deliver, without cuts requested by television stations, etc.

Therefore, when the production team of Chainsaw Man listed the third Blu-ray/DVD pack for release on March 31 in Japan, fans rushed to buy it because they expected to see a particular uncensored scene. It is about the kiss scene that Himeno gives to Denji in the seventh episode. In this story, Himeno was completely drunk, so she ends up throwing up in Denji’s mouth while giving him a deep first kiss.

When this scene aired on TV in Japan, it had to be censored due to regulations, which prohibit the display of vomit and any other “fluid” that might make viewers uncomfortable. This same version was the one that made it to streaming platforms in the West, so fans were hoping that the Blu-ray/DVD version would finally show them the uncensored scene.

And the surprise was, precisely that there was no change! The production team made some corrections here and there to some of the episodes, but the vomit kiss scene continues to be censored even in the high priced physical version. This was reported by the Twitter user “Toro Inoue (@g6xa3awstGCEljS)“, who wrote:

  • «The vomit kiss scene is still tiled on the Blu-ray, just as it aired on TV. I do not put the comparative images of the scene in question because I do not think that people would want to see them even if there was a mosaic».

In the end, it seems that the fans of Chainsaw Man They also did not receive what they were looking for or paying the studios MAP for the physical packages of the series. Fortunately, let’s remember that the Twitter user “Vich (@JblenV)” was in charge of removing the censorship since December of last year, so fans will have to resort to this option produced by a guy who doesn’t even describe himself as an animator.

Synopsis of Chainsaw Man

The story takes place in a world where Demons threaten the peace of humans, making them targets to be eliminated. Denji is a depressed young man who has sold several of his organs and works as a lumberjack and demon hunter to pay off his late father’s debt. Denji owns a dog (which is also a demon) named Pochita, who has chainsaws and which he uses to do his work.

This is explained because humans can make contracts with demons. After returning home from a job, Denji is called by a Yakuza to infiltrate a building and kill another demon. However, the plan was a trap to assassinate him as part of a Yakuza contract with the demon, gaining them more power. But Pochita comes to Denji’s aid and bonds with him, becoming a half-man, half-demon and acquiring Pochita’s chainsaws.
