WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Turner (R) issued a statement on Wednesday warning of unspecified “serious national security threats.” This is an extremely unusual move, and sources say it appears to be related to Russia and space activities.

“I urge President Biden to declassify all relevant information so that Congress, the administration, and our allies can openly discuss the actions needed to respond to this threat,” Turner said. No further information was disclosed.

In a joint statement, Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Warner (Democratic) and Vice-Chairman Rubio (Republican) said they were aware of the information identified by Chairman Turner and that they would “thoroughly” pursue the matter. He said he is in discussions with the government regarding appropriate responses.

White House National Security Advisor Sullivan did not go into details, but said he was planning a meeting with Congressional leaders on the 15th. However, he said he was “surprised” that Chairman Turner issued a statement without waiting for the meeting.
