Champions League: Haaland makes history against RB Leipzig

Why Haaland quarreled with Guardiola

“I can’t do what they’re doing!” Fan talk horrified by RB defense

Erling Haaland is writing a new chapter in Champions League history. Against RB Leipzig, the Norwegian creates a historic brace – and not only that.

In the end, even Erling Haaland found the fly in the ointment. Or was it even more?

“I said (to Pep Guardiola) when I was substituted that I wanted to score a double hat-trick, but what can you do?” said the hero of the night bt sports slightly acidic.

The Norwegian super striker wanted two hat tricks, i.e. six goals Manchester City beat RB Leipzig 7-0 actually achieve – and not “just” five, as he did.

However, Guardiola substituted him after 63 minutes and thus perhaps prevented an even more historic evening.

Fastest double in CL history

However, Haaland made his way into the history books in the second leg of the Champions League.

First, the Norwegian top scorer started with the fastest brace in the premier class. There were only 77 seconds between his 1-0 penalty and 2-0 with a header!

However, both goals were disputed. (Podolski rages after City penalty)

The 1-0 was preceded by a VAR decision after a handball by Benjamin Henrichs. Before the 2-0, Haaland could not have complained if the referee had decided on a striker foul because of a tackle on RB goalkeeper Janis Blaswich. (Champions League fixtures and results)

Haaland made it 3-0 just before the break. Here, too, the 22-year-old was quite lucky. The ball initially tumbled over the goal line, and Haaland was shot when Leipzig’s Amadou Haidara tried to clear.

Haaland like Messi and Adriano

Haaland particularly likes to score against Leipzig. It was already the goals seven to eleven of the former Dortmund attacker against RB.

In the second half, the Haaland show went even further. The super striker made it 5-0 in the 54th minute after another City star had exceptionally scored the 4-0 in Ilkay Gündogan.

Three minutes later, Haaland completed half a dozen for City – and scored his fifth goal. Before him, only two players managed to do this in a single Champions League game: Luiz Adriano (2014 for Donetsk against Borisov) and Lionel Messi (2012 for Barcelona against Leverkusen).

But Messi and Adriano did not manage their five goals as quickly as Haaland.

With the five-pack, Haaland now has 32 goals in 25 games in the Champions League. He is the youngest player to break 30 goals.

Then the City star was replaced by Guardiola to thunderous applause.

Because of change: users develop conspiracy theory

Numerous users expressed their outrage at Haaland’s substitution.

User “GamerBrother” wrote on Twitter: “Conspiracy theory: Barcelona continue to transfer money to Pep Guardiola, who has to replace Haaland in order for Messi’s records to stand.”
