Chance of thundershowers in Kerala; Orange in Pathanamthitta and yellow alert in 6 districts today

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Meteorological Department has warned of a possible very heavy rainfall in the state. The Met Department has warned of isolated thundershowers and winds of up to 40 kmph in isolated places in all districts of Kerala in the next few hours. Meanwhile, an Orange Alert has been declared in Pathanamthitta district. Yellow Alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts today.

Isolated showers are likely to receive 204.4 mm more rain in 24 hours. The Orange Alert will be declared in this area. A yellow alert means 115.5 mm to 204.4 mm of rain in 24 hours. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in at least two places in the last few days.

Those in areas affected by landslides, mudslides and floods in 2018, 2019 and 2020, as well as those living in areas identified by the Geological Survey of India and the expert committee of the State Disaster Management Authority as hazardous areas or uninhabitable areas, and local bodies and government agencies should complete the hazardous preparations.

Preparations as required by the State Disaster Management Authority Orange Book 2021 to conduct relief camps in the context of Kovid 19 should be completed.

In case of heavy rain warning, it is necessary to co-operate with the authorities in the areas where they have to relocate as per the instructions.
People living in dangerous areas should be cautious as the sea level rise is likely to be strong along different coasts. You have to move around at the required stage. Fishing gear should be kept safe.

Those who live in unsealed houses and those whose houses do not have strong roofs should be prepared to move for safety in the face of warnings in the coming days. Endangered trees / posts / boards in private and public places should be secured and the trees should be pruned. Risks should be brought to the attention of the authorities.
