There are 907 fire brigades in Upper Austria. Of these, only 32 are company fire brigades. There are two in the Mühlviertel. One is at the Hueck company in Baumgartenberg, which specializes in foil coating, and the other at the Freistadt company Haberkorn, which exports fire hoses of all shapes and sizes worldwide.

Since the company was founded in 1940, there has also been a fire-fighting team at the Friedhofberg site. At that time, the troop was set up as an air raid fire brigade. Today, the company fire brigade consists of 27 members, eleven of whom are actively involved. After 30 years, Christoph Wolf replaced Erich Wurm as commander of the BTF Haberkorn. “Thank God there haven’t been any major fires in our company,” said the long-term commander. “We also help out outside the company with our two vehicles, a KLF and a crew transporter, a VW Bulli built in 1975, which is almost a vintage car,” Wolf said. When alert level III is declared, the firefighters are on hand, as they were during the flood in 2002. “For example, we were responsible for the campsite at the 2018 state fire service competition in Rainbach.” Commander veteran Erich Wurm added: “From 1960 to 1980 we were always at the top of the performance competitions.”

In order to always be up to date, company employees and firefighters meet every six weeks for an exercise on the company premises. Also present in overalls and helmet is the technical manager and authorized officer of the Haberkorn company, Raphael Gruber, who is also involved in the Perg fire brigade.
