Thanks to Bloomberg’s sources, we have a better idea of the release schedule for Apple’s next AirPods headphones. The firm is preparing the transition to USB-C and should integrate other new features.

After switching to USB-C for AirPods Pro headphones, Apple should do the same for the rest of its audio range. After all, the brand has now adopted the universal connector for its iPhone, iPad and Mac. There is therefore no longer any reason to keep the Lightning.

Apple AirPods 4: two pairs of headphones
Apple is working on two versions of its next Apple AirPods 4. The goal is to completely replace the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 still in the catalog. The main difference between the two models is that the high-end version will offer active noise reduction.
In terms of design, the headphones would have shorter and discreet stems. We still would not find interchangeable caps, a particularity of the AirPods Pro.
In both cases, the charging case would switch to USB-C. The high-end model would also gain the “Find My” function, that is to say a small speaker to help find the case more easily.
Apple AirPods Max 2: little change?
Since 2020, Apple has been marketing a high-end headset called the AirPods Max. A new generation would be planned for the end of 2024, or 4 years later. On the program, a switch to USB-C for charging and a new, more modern connection chip. Bloomberg also mentions new colors.

Little change would be expected from this generation, which is rather surprising with four years of development.
AirPods Pro 3: not before 2025
If the AirPods Pro (USB-C) include some changes, we cannot completely talk about a new generation. Apple is reportedly preparing a new design for 2025. It is with this new product that Apple could emphasize health as a new differentiator of its headphones against the competition.
