Chaos on Brussels Roads: Ghost Vehicle Causes High-Speed Chase and Tunnel Closure

2023-11-04 10:12:00

A Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police patrol noticed, on Saturday around 8:00 a.m., a ghost vehicle traveling on Boulevard Bischoffsheim.

The officers then attempted to stop the vehicle but its driver fled at high speed, driving in the wrong direction. The fleeing driver took rue de la Loi, always in the opposite direction of traffic, then entered the Cinquantenaire tunnel, where he was finally able to be arrested by the police. A police officer was slightly injured during the operation.

Due to the incident, the Cinquantenaire tunnel was closed to traffic heading towards the city center.
