Collecting information on Charles Michel and the European institutions, recruiting sources or even influencing the public debate on the Covid-19 crisis or Hong Kong: Frank Creyelman’s missions were numerous. For at least three years, the far-right Belgian politician received numerous instructions from his Chinese handling officer.

The hundreds of messages between the two men recovered by The worldthe Spiegel and the Financial Times show themes dear to Beijing, such as the Uighurs – the oppressed Muslim minority in the Xinjiang region, Covid-19 or even the pro-democracy demonstrations in Hong Kong. The exchanges, which cover the period 2019-2022, also expose the different influence strategies used by this Chinese agent, who calls himself “Daniel Woo”.
