Charles Pickel: Competing in the World Cup with the DRC is reaching your peak

The Congolese international footballer from Unione Sportiva Cremonese, Charles Pickel Monginda, spoke about his ambitions with the Leopards of the DRC – Democratic Republic of Congo -, as well as for his club career.

In an interview with our colleagues from Léopardfoot, the 26-year-old midfielder revealed that he dreams of playing the World Cup of Nations with the DRC national team, and greatly appreciated the organization of FECOFA -Congolese Football Association Federation-.

“I want to play in the Champions League, I want to win cups; and, above all, competing in the World Cup with the DRC is the ceiling. The organization has really improved. It’s very important, and it has to stay on this stadium, it’s something that the big players expect,” he said.

As a reminder, the Congolese selection finished 4th in CAN 2023, after being beaten by Bafana Bafana of South Africa on penalties, last Saturday February 10. She was eliminated in the semi-final by Ivory Coast, winner of the competition.

Well before that, the Congolese Fauves finished in second position in Group F, with 3 points, behind the Atlas Lions of Morocco. The Congolese eliminated the Pharaons of Egypt and the national Syli of Guinea, respectively in the round of 16 and quarter-finals.

It should be noted that the Leopards will face the Teranga Lions of Senegal, next June, at the Abdoulaye Wade stadium in Dakar, as part of the 3rd day of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The DRC is 3rd in the group B, with 3 points, just behind Senegal and Sudan who have 4 units each.
