Charlie Hebdo denounces in a post to be published on Wednesday the “cynicism” of the Secretary of State for the City Sabrina Agresti-Roubache who, to justify her interview with the JDD new formula, declared herself “daughter of Cabu”, cartoonist killed during the jihadist attack on the newspaper in 2015. “Cynicism, amateurism and political ignorance do not excuse everything”, criticizes Gérard Biard, editor in chief of Charlie Hebdoin a brief editorial entitled “adjustment” published Tuesday on X (ex-Twitter).

In question, the interview given by the Secretary of State for the City to the first edition of the Sunday newspaper under the leadership of Geoffroy Lejeune, marked on the far right. The weekly returned to newsstands on Sunday after a historic 40-day strike by its editorial staff, firmly opposed to the arrival of Mr. Lejeune at its head, fearing a righting of the title.

Divergence in government

“We can’t have been Charlie, going to demonstrate and tearing down freedom of expression today. Journalists died. I am a Cabu girl. Me, in any case, it has never been in my DNA, “said Sabrina Agresti-Roubache at the JDD to motivate his interview. Several left-wing leaders denounced this interview, accusing Macronie of “accelerating[r] the trivialization” of JDD.

In the majority, the Minister Delegate for Transport, Clément Beaune, distanced himself from the “choice” of his colleague. “In terms of communication, it defends itself: it’s an excellent way to go from the stage of perfect stranger to that of buzz maker”, tackle for his part Gérard Biard. But “it would have been wise for [la secrétaire d’Etat] reminds us that Cabu has, throughout his life and his career, fought the extreme right uncompromisingly”, adds the historical journalist of Charlie Hebdo.

The publication of the first issue under the direction of Geoffroy Lejeune was peppered with other controversies. The new editorial staff is suspected of having confused two miscellaneous facts on his front page photo, which Lagardère News, owner of the newspaper, disputed. The boss of Radio France, Sibyle Veil, also denounced Monday on “X” (ex-Twitter) the publication of false information about her.

Deserted by the outgoing strike journalists, the editorial staff of Sunday’s JDD was made up of “volunteers”, close to Mr. Lejeune or Lagardère employees, such as Pascal Praud (journalist for Europe 1 and CNews) or Eric Naulleau (ex-debating companion of Eric Zemmour, supported by Mr. Lejeune in the presidential election of 2022).
