After the inconsistent performance he had shown in the last Formula 1 commitments, last weekend at the United States Grand Prix the Mexican Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez managed to get Helmut Marko to give him a good review.

Red Bull’s sports advisor recognized an improvement in the Guadalajara driver at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, as he managed to climb four places to score crucial points in the drivers’ runners-up position.

In addition, Marko compared Checo Pérez’s performance with that of Max Verstappen, who took the victory to add his 15th victory this season.

“(Checo Pérez) had a very good race and drove with the tires half times the same as Max’s, he was partially stuck in traffic […]. He gave two very good runs. Checo has to finish one or two races ahead of Hamilton and with that he would achieve it (the runner-up of drivers),” the advisor declared to Servus TV.

The last races of this season in Formula 1 are key for Checo Pérez to secure the runner-up position for drivers, since Max Verstappen has already become three-time champion.

After the disqualification of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc in the United States GP, where both presented anomalies in their vehicles, the Mexican still has a wide advantage over the Mercedes driver with a 39-point difference.
