Michael Cheika: “Well, it’s always flattering to hear your name mentioned in such contexts. I’ve always maintained a keen interest in Australian rugby, and the Wallabies’ fortunes are critically important to me. But at the moment, it’s really just speculation, and I’m just focusing on my current role with the Argentina Pumas.”

Archyde News: You recently met with Phil Waugh, Rugby Australia’s CEO, in Sydney. care to shed some light on that?

Michael Cheika: laughs “Not really, Phil and I go way back, so it was just a catch-up more than anything. You know,rugby people talking rugby. I won’t comment on any potential future discussions.”

archyde News: Your record speaks for itself, from Leinster to the Waratahs, and even with the Wallabies at the 2015 World Cup final. What makes you so effective in transforming teams?

Michael Cheika: “I think it’s about understanding each team’s unique identity and context. It’s not about implementing some generic system; it’s about getting the best out of the players and coaches you’ve got.It’s about instilling belief and a collective purpose, and that’s something I’ve managed to do throughout my career.”

Archyde News: If offered the Wallabies job, what would be your vision for the team?

Michael Cheika: “I’d want to build a team that Australia can be truly proud of. A team that plays with courage, hassles for every decision, and is hazardous in attack. I’d want to create an environment where players are proud to represent the Wallabies, and where thay feel supported to grow and improve. Ultimately, I’d want us to be contenders on the world stage.”

Michael Cheika: “Transition is a part of rugby, and it’s important to embrace it. I’d want to ensure we maintain a strong culture and connection to our past while looking towards the future. It’s about ensuring our young players get the opportunities they need to grow and our experienced players provide the leadership to guide them.”

Michael Cheika: “I’d just say, have faith in the process. Rugby Australia is certainly going through all the necessary steps to ensure the best possible outcome for the Wallabies. As fans, all we can do is get behind the team and look forward to the exciting times ahead.”
