Chennai Weather Cyclone Mandous brings heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: Cyclone Mandos makes landfall. The cyclone made landfall near Mahabalipuram. The wind has weakened following touching the coast. Due to the cyclone, Tamil Nadu is receiving heavy rains. The heavy rains that started on Thursday are unrelenting. Strong winds are blowing in coastal areas.

It is estimated that the wind moving in the north-west direction will reduce to low pressure in the evening. Apart from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry are also expected to receive heavy rains, the Meteorological Department has announced. Rain may continue till Sunday.

Due to heavy rains, holidays have been declared for schools and colleges in Chennai and other districts like Vellore, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Ranipet, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram. 16000 police personnel and 1500 home guards have been deployed for security and rescue operations. 25 flights from Kerala to Chennai have been cancelled.

The Central Meteorological Department has informed that from today to 13 isolated rains with thunder and lightning are likely to occur in Kerala. Heavy rain is likely at some places.
