General Motors is recalling certain Chevrolet Malibu vehicles for 2022 through 2023. The front crash bar, a structural part of the vehicle’s frame, may not be properly welded to the front frame rail.
The company believes the defect is only in cars built on specific dates, though it’s not known how many are affected, though NHTSA gave an estimate.
The NHTSA campaign number is 22V923000.
Dealers will inspect the left and right side of the vehicle’s engine rail for incomplete welding. If the condition is found, GM will repurchase the vehicle.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on February 6, 2023.

Does GM still make the Malibu?
Last year, the Malibu was out of production from February through November due to crucial parts shortages.
The stoppage was largely due to GM’s focus on producing high-margin SUVs and trucks when the chip shortage was at its peak.
Approximately 116,000 units were removed from production during the nine-month suspension.
According to the report, GM processed an additional 20,000 Malibu orders in May 2022, after reduced dealer supplies and restricted production left the Malibu with an eight-day supply in March.
Dealers generally like to have around 60 days of stock available under normal business conditions.
