Kochi ∙ Swapna Suresh has alleged that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan misused his official position to release a UAE national caught with a banned satellite phone. Swapna alleged that the chief minister’s office intervened to get bail for a UAE national who was arrested in Nedumbassery on August 4, 2017, with a Thuraiyya phone used for terrorist activities banned in India. Swapna Suresh told the media in Kochi that more evidence related to this case will be released the next day. Swapna Suresh met the media with an FIR related to the arrest of a UAE national.
“There was a call to the consulate. A UAE national was caught and said to be in the hands of the Nedumbassery police. The Consul General called me and asked to speak to the Chief Minister. He said that the Chief Minister has informed that when such things come up, he should be called. I called Sivashankar sir and presented the matter. Sivashankar sir said that he would talk to the Chief Minister and inform about the matter. He called back within 10 minutes. He said that he spoke to the Chief Minister and took necessary steps.’ – Swapna explained.
“Soon, the chief minister’s office intervened to get him bail. The UAE citizen, who got bail the next day, left the country on August 7. There was no further investigation in this serious case.’ – Revealed by Swapna Suresh.
“The chief minister is the one who invited the national investigation agencies here as soon as he heard about the gold smuggling case. It was the same Chief Minister who intervened to release a UAE national without any investigation when he was caught with a satellite phone of the type used for terrorist activities. The Chief Minister and Sivashankar intervened to release this UAE national who arrived here on the 30th without any inquiry into what he did in Kerala till he was arrested on the 4th. They helped the Consulate and the Consul General to rescue a terrorist from here.’ – Swapna accused.
“He is a UAE national born in Egypt. That means he is clearly not a genuine UAE citizen. He came to Calicut from Abu Dhabi. He was caught by the CISF when he tried to escape via an Oman Airways flight. Later I wrote an affidavit as requested by the PRO and got it signed by the Consul General and sent it on WhatsApp. The man arrested on the 4th was in custody till the 6th. He was released on this affidavit on 6th. He was sent back on the 7th. Chief Minister and Shiv Shankar helped a terrorist to leave the country.’ – said Swapna.
“Earlier when I mentioned the violation of protocol, former minister KT Jalil asked if it was a big enough crime to be hanged.” That’s right. When the Chief Minister of the state himself intervenes to save a terrorist, it is natural for him to feel that any breach of protocol is a serious crime. Why CM Pinarayi Vijayan helped UAE Consulate to rescue a terrorist? The answer lies in itself.
