Suddenly a British family’s holiday in the Dominican Republic is in jeopardy. Little Loki Skywalker’s middle name is that of a Disney character from Star Wars. That’s why he can’t get a passport! Will the Mowbrays from Sutton Heath still make it to the holiday?
Son was born on the unofficial Star Wars day
Christian Mowbray is a huge Star Wars fan. So big that his son Loki (7) is named after a character. The soldier is unsuspectingly planning a family vacation and applying for a passport for his child when the bitter news arrives: The Home Office tells him that he must either obtain permission from Disney or consider changing his son’s nameas the New York Post reports. The son’s date of birth is also May 4th, which is unofficially known as Star Wars Day.

It is supposed to be the family’s first trip since Loki’s birth in 2014 – should it really fall through? The authorities justified their refusal to issue the passport by saying that they were not allowed to print the name Skywalker. Copyright law therefore puts a stop to the family of five’s plans. “We know that Loki’s middle name is copyrighted, but we have no intention of using it for our personal gain”defends father Christian.
