China’s cybersecurity agency fined transportation services company Didi Global on Thursday, in an apparent shutdown of a year-long investigation that prevented the company from adding new users.
The government agency said it had fined Didi 8.026 billion yuan ($1.19 billion) after it decided the company had violated China’s Network Security Law, Data Security Law and China’s Personal Information Protection Law.
Management also fined two Didi executives one million yuan each.
The Cybersecurity Authority’s announcement did not say whether the fine means Didi will soon be able to add new users or regain a presence in app stores in China.
