BEIJING: China has given the death penalty to the lovers who killed two children by throwing them from the window of an apartment building. Zhang Bo and his girlfriend Ye Chengchen were executed on Wednesday. It is reported that the punishment of both was carried out by injecting poison.

The sentence will be carried out two years after the Chinese Supreme Court approved their death sentence. The incident related to the case took place in November 2020. Zhang threw her children out of the window of her apartment on the 15th floor of a building in the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing. He did this on the insistence of his girlfriend.

Zhang had a two-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy. He had a relationship with Ye Chengchen by hiding the fact that he was married and had two children. He separated from his wife Chen Meilin in February 2020.

He threw his two children from the top of the apartment building when Ye Chengchen took the position that children are an obstacle to their life together and that the future life is possible only if they are avoided. After this, a video of Zhang bursting into tears was released. The video of him banging his head on the wall and crying was circulated on Chinese social media that day.

Zhang told police that he was sleeping when the children ‘fell down’ and was woken up by the noise of people downstairs. However, later the police found out that he and his girlfriend killed the children. This sparked outrage across China against the guilty boyfriends.

Their execution was a trending topic on Wednesday on Chinese social media Weibo. More than 20 crore people have seen related posts on Weibo.
