“China has to change its policy because low-income countries cannot afford it. Our goal is to bring together all the creditors, traditional creditors from advanced economies, new creditors such as China, Saudi Arabia, India, as well as the private sector and bring them to the negotiating table with debtor countries. China will participate at the level of Finance Minister and Governor of the People’s Bank of China.”

Ms. Georgieva noted that debt reduction is very important for countries that are deeply in debt, to avoid the risk of cutting social services and other consequences.
