China: US exaggerates Russia’s threat to Ukraine

Beijing – Archyde.com

China accused the United States of “exaggerating the threat of war and raising tension”, as US President Joe Biden warned that more than 150,000 Russian troops are still massed near the Ukrainian border following Moscow announced the withdrawal of some of its forces.

Western countries proposed arms control and confidence-building steps to defuse the standoff, which prompted them to urge their citizens to leave Ukraine because an attack might occur at any time. Russia denied planning the invasion. “Such exaggerations and continuous media misinformation by Western countries will create turmoil and uncertainty in a world full of difficulties and increase tension and division,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told a regular briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.

“We hope that the relevant parties will put an end to such campaigns of disinformation and do more to promote peace, mutual trust and cooperation,” he added.

Western leaders, including Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, have criticized China for its stance on Ukraine.

“The leadership of the two countries, China and Russia, have always worked to develop long-term good-neighborly relations and mutually beneficial cooperative relations on the basis of non-confrontation and non-targeting of third countries,” Wang Wenbin said.
