Beijing: D.P.P. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi gave a strong warning to the people of Taiwan who won the (Democratic People’s Party) candidate William Lai. Wang threatened that Taiwan would be severely punished if it tried to become an independent country. China considers William Lai a separatist who stands for Taiwan’s independence.

“If anyone on the island of Taiwan thinks they can go to independence, they are trying to cut China off. They will be severely punished by history and law,” Wang Yi said at a press conference during a visit to Cairo, Egypt.

“No matter what the outcome of the election, there is no change in the fundamental principle that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is part of it. Taiwan was never a country. It will not be a country in the future” – he said.

Taiwan is an autonomous territory claimed by China for years. Chinese President Xi Jinping has repeatedly said that Taiwan will be annexed to China. The position of the US is that it will stand with Taiwan in case of military action.

A US delegation will arrive in Taiwan on Monday to hold talks with the new political leadership. This is an unofficial visit. In 2022, the U.S. US-China relations worsened after former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan.

Meanwhile, Taiwan condemned China’s false comments against the election results.
