China’s ChangXin Memory Technologies will supply its latest LPDDR6 DRAM chips for Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship folding phone, the Xiaomi 18 Fold, slated for a September release. The landmark partnership marks a significant technological leap for domestic mobile memory, bringing local manufacturing closer to global giants like Samsung and SK Hynix.

The mobile hardware landscape is shifting rapidly as domestic Chinese semiconductor manufacturing closes the gap with established international competitors. ChangXin Memory Technologies, widely known as CXMT, has officially confirmed that its advanced LPDDR6 DRAM chips have entered mass production, with Xiaomi selecting the new memory modules for its upcoming flagship device.

Rather than adopting the anticipated Mix Fold moniker, the manufacturer’s next-generation foldable will debut under the Xiaomi 18 Fold title. The collaboration was formally confirmed when CXMT launched a new Weibo account to announce the mass-production milestone, a move quickly echoed by Xiaomi founder Lei Jun on his own social media channels.

Inside the XRING O3 Chipset and LPDDR6 Performance

The hardware synergy centers on a powerful pairing. The Xiaomi 18 Fold will debut alongside the Xring O3 application processor, an in-house mobile chipset manufactured on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s 3-nanometre process. According to benchmark disclosures, the processor features a deca-core CPU layout comprising two C1-Ultra cores clocked up to 4.35GHz, four C1-Premium cores reaching 3.68GHz, and four C1-Pro cores running at up to 3.15GHz.

Performance metrics underscore the chipset’s ambition. The processor achieved an AnTuTu V11 benchmark score of 5,228,014 points, alongside Geekbench 6.5 scores of 3,945 in single-core and 15,221 in multi-core tests. CXMT’s LPDDR6 implementation provides 113.8GB/s of memory bandwidth when paired with the processor, operating at baseline speeds of 10.67 Gbps and scaling up to 12.8 Gbps.

Technical Parity and Remaining Gaps Against Global Peers

While industry analysts note that CXMT’s LPDDR6 architecture remains roughly 11 percent behind the maximum 14.4 Gbps data transfer speed permitted under JEDEC standards by rivals like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, the engineering achievement is substantial.

Domestic media reports highlighted the development as the first instance of China seizing a global first-mover advantage in the advanced low-power memory race.
