(Beijing = Yonhap News) Correspondent Jo Jun-hyung = Chinese star actor and singer Li Yi-feng (35, 李易峰) is in danger of being expelled from the entertainment industry after being caught on suspicion of buying sex.

Local media, including China’s state-run Central Television (CCTV), reported on the 11th that Li Feng was recently detained for being caught on prostitution, and admitted to several violations of prostitution during the police investigation process.

As soon as the news spread, at least 11 brands, including jewelry maker Liu Fuzhou Bao (六福珠寶), terminated their contracts with Li Feng.

On the 12th, some high-speed trains removed Li Feng’s advertisement photos on the seat backs one by one.

According to the state-run Global Times, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, who had appointed Li Feng as a public relations ambassador, deleted all content related to Li Feng from the Weibo (微博, Chinese Twitter) account, and awarded celebrities who actively participated in public service activities. The China Hua Ding Awards organizing committee announced that they had removed Li Feng from the list of winners.

Li Feng gained great popularity by appearing in several movies, including Love Panic (2011) and Animal World (2018), as well as in a number of dramas such as Love Recipe (2012) and Night Walker (2022), as well as acting as a singer.

In 2017, he was ranked 4th just above Chenglong in the Chinese celebrity income ranking, and was a star with more than 36 million Weibo followers.

As a result, the incident is regarded as a shock to the Chinese. Since the night of the 11th, Li Feng’s name has almost taken over the rankings of major search terms on China’s major portal site Baidu and social media (SNS).

Recently, Chinese celebrities have been accused of sexual misconduct last year, including the sexual assault case of pianist Lee Windy and the sexual assault of EXO member Chris (Chinese name Wu Yipan).

In addition, with the emphasis on social discipline ahead of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party (the party congress, which opens on October 16), when it will be decided whether or not to extend President Xi Jinping’s reign, the entertainment industry’s ‘normal wind’, which was strong last year, took advantage of this incident. It remains to be seen whether it will rise again.
