Chinese Communist Party membership exceeds 9.6 crore

The membership of the Communist Party of China will exceed 96 million (9.6 crore) by the end of 2021, according to the Organizational Division of the CPC Central Committee. CPC has about 5 million grassroots organizations.

Among them are 278,000 grassroots party committees, 316,000 general branches and more than 4.3 million branches. The leading strength of party organizations at the village and community levels has also improved, featuring an increasing proportion of party secretaries aged 35 and under and those with a junior college degree or higher.

The composition of party membership has steadily improved, with improved levels of education and steady growth in the proportion of female members and those from ethnic minority groups.

More than half of CPC members, 53.2 percent, have a junior college degree or higher. The number of women members of the party increased from 21 million to 28 million in 2013, accounting for 29.4 percent of the total membership.

Members from ethnic minorities increased from less than 6 million to more than 7 million, or 7.5 percent. Workers and farmers make up the majority of CPC members, accounting for 33.6 percent of total membership, data from the report showed.

The 20th Party Congress of the CPC is expected to be held in the second half of this year.
